  7. INTRODUCTION:
  8.  
  9. Graphics Developer With Slide Show (GDWSS) is an application 
  10. designed to help you browse, search, find, create, view, 
  11. enhance, convert, and print your picture files. You can crop 
  12. it, adjust the shading, size, orientation, placement on the 
  13. page, aspect ratio, and save an ordered list of files to display
  14. again or as a screen saver.  You can even reduce the color 
  15. content and convert color images to gray scale images for 
  16. laser printing.  GDWSS works with many different kinds of 
  17. picture file types such as TIFF, GIF, JPEG, PICT, Raster, 
  18. Targa, Bitmap, Kodak Photo CD and more.

  20. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:

  22.  * Microsoft Windows '95 or Windows 3.1 and DOS 5.3 or higher
  23.  * A hard disk and a mouse
  24.  * 486/25 MHz or higher recommended

  59. INSTALLING GDWSS:
  60.

  62. IMPORTANT SCREEN SAVER INSTALLATION NOTE:
  63.  
  64. In order to use the screen saver, you need to add the GDWSS 
  65. directory to the PATH statement in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file.  
  66. Example: PATH=...;C:\GDWSS, or move the GDWSS DLL files to 
  67. your windows\system directory.  If you want to use file formats 
  68. other than .BMP (ie. JPG, GIF, TIF,...) in your screen saver, 
  69. you must use the "Slide Show - Centered" option with a created 
  70. list or .SSG list.

  73. If you received one compressed file:
  74.  
  75.   1) Unzip GDWSS##.ZIP or run GDWSS##.EXE from DOS or Windows 
  76.      File Manager to expand the files.  
  77.  
  78. If you received a disk with all of the compressed files
  79. or after expanding the files:
  80.  
  81.   2) Run SETUP.EXE which will uncompress the files and install 
  82.      GDWSS to the default or selected directory and create icons 
  83.      in Program Manager.
  84.

  128. GDWSS is written in Visual Basic Ver 3.0.  You will need 
  129. the runtime DLL for Visual Basic: VBRUN300.DLL.  This may
  130. not come with your copy but can be downloaded from most

  139. GETTING STARTED:
  140.  
  141. To begin using Graphics Developer With Slide Show double click 
  142. on the GDWSS icon in Program Manager created by GDWSS SETUP.EXE 
  143. or double click on GDWSS.EXE in File Manager.  
  144.  
  145. Graphics Develeper and Slide Show are combined into one program.
  146. You can create two seperate icons in Program Manager, one to 
  147. start Slide Show directly and one to start Graphics Developer 
  148. directly.  To have the Slide Show form come up first use 
  149. "GDWSS.EXE /SS" in the command line.  To have Graphics Developer 
  150. come up first use "GDWSS.EXE" or "GDWSS.EXE /DEV" in the command 
  151. line.  You can also follow GDWSS.EXE with a path and file name 
  152. and Graphics developer will be first to start with that picture 
  153. file.  See GDWSS.HLP for more information on using GDWSS.

  155. The Graphics Developer Screen Saver is copied to your Windows
  156. directory.  To run it you must go to the Windows Control
  157. Panal, click on Desktop and choose "GDWSS Scrn Svr" from the
  158. list.  Use the Setup button to specify which .SSG gallery file
  159. you want to use.

  186. UNINSTALL
  187.  
  188. To uninstall Graphics Developer, run UNINSTAL.BAT located
  189. in the same directory GDWSS.EXE is located.  You may need to
  190. edit the file if you specified a location other than
  191. C:\GDWSS.  You can also manually delete the program files 
  192. listed above.  You probably do not want to delete CMDIALOG.VBX, 
  193. THREED.VBX, or COMMDLG.DLL from your Windows\System direcory.  
  194. They may be used by other programs.

  200. This program is for those who just want the gallery options minus 
  201. the screen saver and find file dialog.  It is designed to help you 
  202. find, organize, display, and print your picture files.  Multiple 
  203. picture files are displayed in a gallery which you can organize, 
  204. sort, delete, and save to a file as a group so you can view them 
  205. all again.  You can run a slide show from the gallery or a list 
  206. of picture files.  It will display many different kinds of picture 
  207. file types such as TIFF, GIF, JPEG, PICT, Raster, Targa, Bitmap, 
  208. and more.

  210. Graphics View/Print ......................... $10
  211. This program is for those who just want the graphics options 
  212. without the gallery.  It is also missing some of the more 
  213. advanced graphics functions.  It is designed to help you view, 
  214. print, capture, convert, and resize picture files.  You can 
  215. convert color images to gray scale images for laser printing.  
  216. GRVP works with many different kinds of picture file types 
  217. such as BMP, PCX, TIF, GIF, JPG, PIC, RAS, TGA, CUT and more.

  219. Graphics View/Print & Graphics Gallery ...... $15

  222. SHAREWARE/REGISTRATION:
  223.  
  224. Graphics Developer With Slide Show is a shareware program.  
  225. You may use it for a trial period of up to 30 days.  After that 
  226. time, you must register your copy of the program.  The 
  227. registration fee is $25.  Registered users will receive the very 
  228. latest version of the program, notification of future releases,
  229. and full online support.

  231. To register your copy: run the program and when the About form 
  232. is displayed, click on the Register button and a registration 
  233. form will be displayed.  Click on the Print Topic button to 
  234. print out a registration form.  Fill out the registration form 
  235. and mail it with your payment to the address on the form.  You
  236. will be mailed the most recent, registered version of Grahics 
  237. Developer.  If you do not use the registration form, send your 
  238. name and address and check or money order to:

  250. If you have a CompuServe account, you can use the on-line 
  251. software registration service.  This service will charge your 
  252. CompuServe account, and will automatically send SkiSoft an E-mail 
  253. message notifying us that you have registered Graphics Developer.

  277. GDWSS TROUBLE SHOOTING TIPS:
  278.  
  279. 1. Format conversion problems - some formats will not convert to 
  280. others.  Try reducing the number of colors, changing palettes, 
  281. or going to greyscale.  For example to convert from .BMP to .JPG 
  282. or be able to use the FILTER functions, first convert the .BMP 
  283. to Class "True Color" or "Grayscale", then you can use FILTERS 
  284. and /or "Save As" with a .JPG extension.
  285.  
  286. 2. If you want to convert your pictures so you can edit them with 
  287. Windows Paint Brush first make sure you convert the image class 
  288. to Palette, if it isn't already, using the Development Toolbar 
  289. "Convert" option.  Then use SaveAs .PCX or .BMP no compression.
  290.  
  291. 3. If you bring up the .JPG files you received with GDWSS and 
  292. they look grainy or off color, you can try to load a different 
  293. display driver with more colors and/or a higher resolution.  You 
  294. do this by running C:\WINDOWS\SETUP.EXE.
  295.  
  296. 4. Using full screen slide show with icons from the file list may 
  297. not work correctly if the "Keep Existing Graphics" options is 
  298. set.  Turn this option off (located on the setup form) and try 
  299. again. 
  300.  
  301. 5. If you get an error during installation about not being able
  302. to load DDEMD.DL_, don't worry about it.  You already have it
  303. in your system.  Click OK to continue the intallation.
  304.  
  305. 6. If you install all GDWSS files to the same directory and
  306. get a file not found error, re-run GDWSS SETUP.EXE and select
  307. the "copy to WINDOWS/SYSTEM" option or you can copy all VBX and 
  308. DLL files in the GDWSS directory to your WINDOWS\SYSTEM 
  309. directory and try again.  
  310.  
  311. 7. GDWSS uses a lot of system resources.  If it is running too 
  312. slow or graphics are taking too long to load, your system may not 
  313. have enough horsepower to run this application.
  314.  
  315. 8. Memory Problems - Even at 8 Meg you can run into memory 
  316. problems with this application since it is graphics intensive.  
  317. 12 Meg or higher seems to work best.  If you have 8 Meg or less, 
  318. limit the number of thumbnails you create and display.  Do not 
  319. do a Find Files using a pattern of *.* which searches the entire 
  320. hard drive.
  321.  
  322. 9. GDWSS currently only supports writing to the Postscript (.EPS)
  323. graphics format.  It will not read and display them.  
  324.  
  325. 10. If you use large or high resolution graphics for your screen
  326. saver, your PC might lock up due to lack of resources.  Be careful
  327. how you set this up.
  328.  
  329. 11. If your GDWSS screen saver does not work, remember to add
  330. C:\GDWSS to your AUTOEXEC.BAT PATH statement or copy the specified 
  331. files to your windows\system directory.
  332.

  334. LICENSE INFORMATION:
  335.  
  336. This program is a "shareware program" and is provided at no charge
  337. to the user for evaluation.  Feel free to share it with your 
  338. friends, but do not give it away altered or as part of another 
  339. system.  If you find this program useful and continue to use it 
  340. after 30 days, you must make a registration payment to SkiSoft 
  341. Shareware for the fee specified on the registration form found in 
  342. the program's help file.  The fee will license one copy for use on 
  343. any one computer at any one time.  If used on a network system, 
  344. each user is considered to be using a distinct copy of the licensed 
  345. program whether or not he or she is actually using it.  Site-License
